RSL and Pioneer day!

Parade, soccer game and fireworks...OH MY!

Our day started off with yummy homemade waffles, crisp bacon and the annual 24th of July parade! I loved the Scottish pipe band and the endless pioneer themed floats. After lounging around all morning we finally got ready and helped my niece move into her new apartment. I am seriously thinking of hiring movers next time we move…it was brutal out in 95 degree weather.

With a much needed shower and a little bit of hair gel we were ready for dinner and the big game. We cheered on REAL SALT LAKE as they played Chivas, it was a bit of a sloppy game but we never stopped enjoying it. We welcomed back our team captain Kyle Beckerman, he was feistier then ever…man did we miss him. After the game we got to go onto the field and watch a fabulous firework show. Then to top it all off we got to get autographs and pictures taken with Chris Wingert and Fabian Espindola…such an amazing night!

Start spreading the news,

New York, New York…was our destination for the month of April! We had a fabulous time staying with an old friend and meeting new ones along the way. (Go Scotster.com) We spent three great days walking, riding the metro and relaxing on the Staten Island Ferry. We ended it all with a leisurely stroll in the Tartan Day Parade. I know, three Polynesian girls in a Scottish parade=wicked fun!!! Here are a few pictures of our weekend adventure.

Cruising…Big Island Style

Aloha! Nothing says vacation like sun, surf and ono grinds! So we jumped on the plane, leaving the snow behind and headed for our own island paradise, Hawaii nei. It was absolutely perfect!

This was our first vaca with Keawe, my soon to be missionary nephew. He wanted to see and eat everything. So our first eats in Hilo were at Cafe 100, best loco moco in town! Here we are with some of da Hilo ohana, mahalo to our Aunties, cousins and Pepe for letting us crash at your place.

Next we drove out to Punalu'u to spend a relaxing afternoon on the black sand beach. Jared, Keawe, Marlo and Moana braved it out in the cold water and even swam with the honu's (sea turtles). As for me, P and the Aunties, we stayed safely on shore, enjoying the beautiful view.

After drying off and grabbing a quick bite, we headed to Hawai'i Volcano National Park. Thanks to Moana for being our offical tour guide. Up at Kilauea crater we were VOG'd in, so much volcanic pollution in the air, you could feel and taste it. YUCK! We were soon asked to get indoors and we obeyed when the alarms started going off. We spent about 30 min inside waiting for the VOG to clear up. We of course spent that time getting in photo opps!

Me and Jared

Our tour ended with a visit to the lava tube...I forgot how big it really is.

Day 2- We drove to Tex's Drive-in in Honoka'a to have some ono malasadas. Jared and Keawe tried the filled kine and the rest of us stuck with the original. Oh how I love dough and sugar...yum!

We then drove to Waimea and then back to Hilo to see da DeCoito's place. We were met by a dozen cattle, two dogs and one small pua'a (boar).

Our day ended with our own Hawaiian luau, mahalo nui loa to Aunty Adela who made all the ono kine grinds! Me kealoha pumehana.
